Apple will unveil macOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 keynote on Monday, June 8. The first developer beta will be available immediately after the keynote, with a public beta expected in July. The final version is slated for a September release to all users.
While macOS 26 was named Tahoe, the official name for macOS 27 has not yet leaked. Apple typically reveals the version name during the keynote. This year's update is set to be a major one, focusing on Siri improvements, touch interface optimizations, and performance stability.
Siri Upgrades
macOS 27 will reportedly include a dedicated Siri app with conversation history, making it more similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. This marks a significant shift from the current Siri integration.
Additionally, the update brings the personalized Siri features first previewed by Apple at WWDC 2024. These include queries like asking Siri about a mother's flight and lunch reservation using data from Mail and Messages. Touch Interface
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple is developing a touch-optimized version of macOS for the rumored MacBook Pro or “MacBook Ultra” with a touchscreen. According to the report, touching a button or control will instantly display a relevant set of commands in a menu surrounding the finger. Tapping an item in the menu bar will enlarge controls for easier selection.
Gurman expects a touchscreen MacBook Pro or Ultra to launch by early 2027, meaning these touch optimizations will likely be built into macOS 27 but may remain hidden until the hardware arrives.
Improved Stability
macOS 27 is reportedly modeled after 2009's Mac OS X Snow Leopard, with Apple heavily focused on improving quality and underlying performance. Users can expect numerous bug fixes, stability enhancements, and possible updates to the Liquid Glass design language.
Intel Macs Dropped
Last year, Apple confirmed that macOS Tahoe would be the final major release for Intel-based Macs. macOS 27 will only support Apple Silicon Macs with M1 chip or newer. However, security updates for some Intel models will continue for at least a few more years.
No AirPort Time Capsule Support
Starting with macOS 27, Macs will not support AirPort Time Capsule or any other storage drives of that era. Users relying on these devices will need to migrate their backup solutions.
